Raise your hand if you like to video chat...

Aloha all from hot, Hot, HOT Los Angeles:)
As many of you know, in September, I'll be running the Disney Half Marathon on
behalf of AIDS Project Los Angeles. I am very excited to run for this great
organization and have already gotten blisters trying
to improve my time. I'm better now thanks to new socks:)
Anyhoo, I'm still raising money for APLA and would love a donation from you. In
appreciation for your contribution, I'll be doing a personal online video chat
via Skype on Monday, August 31st from 9am-10am PST. Wait, it gets even better!
The super exciting news is that I'll be doing this video chat together with
Karla Mosley and
Jenn (Peterson-Hind) Korbee. That's right, the girls will be back together
again to hang out, catch up and
have one on one time with you and your family.
Details:
All Donations must be made by Sunday July 26th 2009.

If you don't already have a Skype Account, it's free!! Sign up

With Skype, you can video chat, voice chat or text chat. If you would like to
voice or video chat, please make sure you've tested your settings before August
31st.
Jenn, Karla and I will be doing voice and video chat so, if you have your
computer set for it, you'll be able to see and talk to us one on one. If you
don't have a video camera on your computer, you can talk to us via your
computer's microphone and watch us on Skype as we respond to your questions in
real time.
Each $25 donation to APLA will give you 5 minutes of chat time. Larger
donations will give you more time (up to a maximum of 10 minutes).

I'm really excited about this! It's a great way to raise money for this amazing

I will have to tell my sisters - We, together, have 13 kids (aged 9 & under) and all of them have grown up loving "Hi-5!" Hopefully it won't sound too cheesy to admit that we've also loved it, ourselves. Saw you guys in Raleigh, NC in '04 (I think) and keep checking for more tours... Yes, that dedicated!!! It's nice keeping up with you on facebook & blogger. :) Best of luck to you in the race!!!
First, why are you running a marathon AND collecting donations when you can simply JUST collect donations? What does running have to do with anything? Stay home and relax! ;)
Second, why the heck are you charging people $5/min for the privilege of talking to you? That's even more than what the 1-900 dirty numbers charge! lol! You pretty much know everyone personally. Hun, all you need to do is ask each of us personally and we'll be more than happy to help you out...as your friends!
Aloha Leah!
Definitely tell your sister and kids:) Thanks for your support!
Hope to "see" you soon.
Love love,
Kimee
Aloha "Anonymous",
Thanks for reading the blog. Sitting at home and relaxing would be a nice thing, but running the half marathon is something that I wanted to challenge myself with. I have several friends who have done it in the past and have always thought that I could never do it. I wanted to truly put myself to the test.
AIDs Project Los Angeles is a very important cause to me. I have several friends living with HIV. We were asked if we wanted to run for someone in particular today, and I knew right away who it would be. A dear friend of mine was living with HIV until we lost him almost 2 years ago. We all miss him very much and I know that he is watching over us and rooting my tired legs on!:)
As for asking for donations for the phone calls, this is my first time really fundraising for a cause. I've always felt weird asking people for money, so I thought of a way that people could get something in return. I get emails asking about Hi-5 all the time, so thought this was a great opportunity to get together with the girls (since Karla is going to be in LA) and chat with everyone. The three of us are excited to do it & I know the fans are too:)
Thanks so much again for reading the blog and leaving a comment. I love hearing from you all!
Have a great rest of your weekend!
Love love,
Kimee
Aloha Kimee -
Thanks for your response. I never quite understood why people run/walk/twirl hula hoops/etc. in fundraisers when they could simply be collecting money...I guess it really is a way to challenge oneself. And come to think of it...maybe having a big event like a marathon is a good way to raise public awareness about a pressing issue - after all, you can't simply not notice a marathon that's going on across the street!
And regarding the whole "chat" thing - its a nice way to say "thanks" to donors, though its unfortunate that the timing is so rigid.
Anyways, you're doing an incredible thing. Money is tight and I've donated what I could (anonymously, of course).
Good luck with the run. Next year I'm sure you'll do the FULL marathon! :)
Hey Kim -
When's the latest that we can make donations? (I don't mean the "video chat" deadline that's Monday - I mean donations in general). And when's the race?
Hi Zoomgirl,
Donations can come in any time. The actual 1/2 Marathon is on September 6th. I'm so excited.
Thanks for asking!
Love love,
Kimee
Saludos.
